About Me

Jen Benner, LMSW

As a social worker and the mother of two young children, I have a desire to help children grow into their best character, enhancing personal well-being and relationships.  I created The Strengths Project with the belief that all children have character strengths which need to be recognized, celebrated, and shared.  It is my hope that children will inspire one another’s character growth through shared storytelling.

In past professional roles, including work at a children’s advocacy center, domestic violence shelter, mental health center, and elementary school, I experienced the resilience of children and their capacity for growth.  I utilized the strengths perspective approach to social work practice and strongly believe all individuals have empowering “abilities, talents, and resources.” (socialwork.oxfordre.com)  I witnessed the empowerment that results from highlighting a person’s inherent self worth and value and seek to continue this important work.

I hold a Master of Social Work degree from Wichita State University and maintain professional LMSW licenses in both Missouri and Kansas.  Prior to my graduate work, I earned a B.A. in Global Peace and Justice Studies and a B.A. in Music from Bethel College.
