Every child has unique character strengths.  Recognizing and sharing these strengths with peers allows children to learn from one another, expanding their own repertoire of social emotional skills.  The Strengths Projects facilitates this process in a classroom of peers by conducting character strengths assessments paired with child interviews.  The information gathered is then compiled into a storybook collection of biographical short stories.  Each student and the teacher are provided with a storybook for personal and classroom use.  Storybooks can be read and re-read reinforcing personal strengths and exposure to peers’ strengths, creating the mindset that “If my friend can do that, I can do that too!”

As a collection of biographical short stories, The Strengths Project storybooks can be read in part or in whole and used in various activities to further reinforce the learning of new social emotional skills.  Learn More about the supplemental activities that accompany The Strengths Project storybooks.

The Strengths Project is available to elementary school classrooms in Kansas City, Missouri.  While the character strengths assessment and storybook reading level are geared toward third grade students, accommodations can be made tailoring the project to other grades.  Contact Jen Benner, LMSW to learn more about implementing The Strengths Project in your classroom.
